Koh Lipe, at the far south of the Andaman Sea near the Malaysian border, is often compared to the Maldives for the clarity of its turquoise water. Much smaller than Phuket or Krabi, the island is entirely walkable and concentrates most of its offer on three main beaches.
Beaches and turquoise water
Pattaya Beach, the liveliest, faces floating restaurants and longtail boats; Sunrise and Sunset Beach, quieter, live up to their names depending on the time of day.
Snorkeling and diving
The surrounding islets (Koh Adang, Koh Rawi, within Tarutao National Park) offer snorkeling right off the beach or on a day trip.
Koh Lipe is reached by boat from Pak Bara or La Ngu on the mainland, or from Langkawi in nearby Malaysia; the dry season (December to April) is the only window with guaranteed boat crossings.
